PUTERAEON – Quindecennial Horror (Adv. EP 2024)

Em meio a uma época onde tudo se caracteriza pela liquidez de sua existência, ver bandas completando 15 anos de existência é algo muito bom. O PUTERAEON completa seus quinze anos de existência com uma trajetória muito simples e direta: fazendo death metal.

“Quindecennial Horror” resgata antigas composições do grupo sueco e a reapresenta com uma produção melhor, uma interpretação à altura da qualidade do trabalho atual do PUTERAEON.

A banda virou seus olhos paras faixas de suas demo tapes e de seu debut álbum para compor o curto, mas eficiente tracklist desse EP. Todas as faixas mostram o quanto o grupo sempre foi coerente em sua proposta. Mesmo sendo faixas mais antigas, elas já mostravam de forma clara o nível de grupo que estava ali sendo formado riff a riff.

“The Plague” abre o material e é uma música da demo tape “Fascination for Mutilation”, de 2008. Faixa barra pesada, pesadona e com todo o cacoete do death metal sueco. Uma música que vai até o fim sem atalhos. “Whispers of the Dead” e “Graverobber” são da demo tape “The Requiem”, também de 2008. A primeira é rápida e cheia de energia, mas guarda momentos mais contido e focados no peso da guitarra. A segunda foi lançada hoje em forma de vídeo oficial e é mais cadenciada, com excelentes riffs e uma boa dose de podridão.

Uma das melhores é “Dead Once More”, uma faixa inspirada no filme Re-Animator e retirada da demo 2009 “The Extraordinary Work of Herbest West”. A banda mantém sua pegada suja das demos anteriores, mas flerta com elementos diferentes, principalmente na melodia criadas pelas guitarras. É uma faixa do mais puro death metal sueco e da melhor qualidade.

A última é “Storms Over Devil´s Reef”, a faixa de abertura do debut álbum da banda. Até hoje é um dos meus trabalhos preferidos do PUTERAEON, pois une a crueza dos primórdios com a classe de uma banda que havia evoluido em sua própria essência.

Esse resgate de sons mais antigos é um belo presente para os fãs que já conheciam a banda e um excelente cartão de visitas para aqueles que nunca ouviram o som do grupo sueco. A capa é pura velha escola e a mixagem e masterizacão do mestre Dan Swanö deixam tudo como deve soar. Isso é death metal. Do que mais você precisa ?

At a time when everything is characterised by the liquidity of its existence, seeing bands completing 15 years of existence is a very good thing. PUTERAEON completes its fifteen years of existence with a very simple and straightforward trajectory: making death metal.

“Quindecennial Horror” recovers old compositions by the Swedish group and re-presents them with better production, an interpretation that matches the quality of PUTERAEON‘s current work.

The band looked at tracks from their demo tapes and their debut album to compose the short but efficient tracklist for this EP. All the tracks show how coherent the group has always been in its approach. Even though they were older tracks, they clearly showed the level of the group that was being formed riff by riff.

“The Plague” opens the material and is a song from the demo tape “Fascination for Mutilation”, from 2008. It’s a heavy, heavy track with all the hallmarks of Swedish death metal. A song that goes all the way to the end with no shortcuts. “Whispers of the Dead” and “Graverobber” are from the demo tape “The Requiem”, also from 2008. The first is fast and full of energy, but has some more restrained moments focussed on the heaviness of the guitar. The second was released today in the form of an official video and is more paced, with excellent riffs and a good dose of rot.

One of the best is “Dead Once More”, a track inspired by the film Re-Animator and taken from the 2009 demo “The Extraordinary Work of Herbest West”. The band maintains its dirty approach from previous demos, but flirts with different elements, especially in the melody created by the guitars. It’s pure Swedish death metal of the highest quality.

Last up is “Storms Over Devil’s Reef”, the opening track on the band’s debut album. To this day, it’s one of my favourite PUTERAEON albums, because it combines the rawness of the early days with the class of a band that had evolved in its very essence.

This revival of older sounds is a great gift for fans who already knew the band and an excellent calling card for those who have never heard the sound of the Swedish group. The cover is pure old school and the mixing and mastering by master Dan Swanö make everything sound just as it should. That’s death metal. What more do you need?
