SONIC POISON – Eruption (CD 2023)

Esse trio desgraçado foi formado na Finlândia em 2012 e após alguns lançamentos mais undergrounds finalmente chegou ao seu debut álbum, o esporrento “Eruption”.

Esse álbum só pode ser descrito de uma forma: maldita música do caos e violência. Uma mistura doentia de grind, death e thrash metal como não ouvia há muito tempo. As referências que poderia apontar no som do SONIC POISON são coisas que fogem do mainstream como o diabo foge da cruz. Se você aprecia bandas como Repulsion, velho Napalm Death, Invocator (demo tapes), S.O.D. e até mesmo algo do Morbid Angel, o SONIC POISON é uma banda a ser ouvida com muita atenção. Tudo isso é misturado no liquidificador e tem a energia e sujeira do punk/hc adicionados, criando um álbum que passa realmente rápido, mas que deixa apenas terra arrasada por todos os lados.

Esse álbum entrou na minha lista de melhores do ano e não é por acaso. Quando você ouve uma faixa como “Ouroboros”, você sabe que tem algo especial em mãos. É um grindcore tocado com ódio sem fim.

A faixa de abertura, por exemplo, é um death/thrash da velha escola que me lembrou muito o The Horde of Torment em sua demo tape. Isso tem uma energia realmente incrível. Na mesma pegada, mas com algo mais meléfico nos riffs vem “Impenetrable Force”, uma faixa com aquela pegada do deathcore que se fazia quando tudo ainda era apenas mato.

A desgraceira grind vem com faixas como “Repulsive Reactions”, “Carbonized”, Taste of Inferiority” (riffs matadores) e “Grinding Fear”.

Ouvir uma faixa de 25 segundos é sinônimo de alegria imensa, pois tudo faixa como um raio. Brutal. E se conecta de forma perfeita com “War on Drugs”, um punk/hc clássico e nervoso até os ossos.

“Library Slasher” não precisa de muita explicação. Ouça e resista a sair pela sala chutando tudo. Difícil. A faixa título acelera mais ainda, rasga riffs curtos e diretos e distribui tapas por todos os lados.

“Uprising” é curta, mas tem uma vibe death metal matadora. Alguns riffs são puro Morbid Angel dos primórdios. Fechando o álbum vem a gigantesca “World We Knew”, que com seus 2:11 parece que não acaba nunca mais (hahahahahah). Certamente essa faixa vai funcionar maravilhosamente bem ao vivo.

Um álbum como esse não pode ter uma capa bonitinha e “Eruption” nos brinda com uma arte de capa caótica, em consonância com o som que representa.

Puta disco, puta banda e que venha o próximo o mais rápido possível..

This disgraced trio was formed in Finland in 2012 and after a few more underground releases they’ve finally released their debut album, the smashing “Eruption”.

This album can only be described in one way: bloody music of chaos and violence. A sick mix of grind, death and thrash metal like I haven’t heard in a long time. The references I could point to in SONIC POISON‘s sound are things that run away from the mainstream like the devil runs away from the cross. If you like bands like Repulsion, old Napalm Death, Invocator (demo tapes), S.O.D. and even something from Morbid Angel, SONIC POISON is a band to listen to very carefully. All of this is mixed together in a blender and has the energy and grime of punk/hc added to it, creating an album that goes by really fast, but leaves nothing but scorched earth on all sides.

This album made my list of the best of the year and it’s no coincidence. When you hear a track like “Ouroboros”, you know you’ve got something special on your hands. It’s grindcore played with endless hatred.

The opening track, for example, is an old-school death/thrash that reminded me a lot of The Horde of Torment on their demo tape. It has a really incredible energy. In the same vein, but with something more mellifluous in the riffs comes “Impenetrable Force”, a track with that deathcore feel that was around when everything was still just bush.

The grind comes with tracks like “Repulsive Reactions”, “Carbonised”, “Taste of Inferiority” (killer riffs), “Grinding Fear”.

Listening to a 25-second track is synonymous with immense joy, because everything goes like a bolt of lightning. Brutal. And it connects perfectly with “War on Drugs”, a classic punk/hc song that’s nervous to the bone.

“Library Slasher” doesn’t need much explanation. Listen and resist going round the room kicking everything. Difficult. The title track speeds up even more, rips out short, direct riffs and slaps you all over the place.

“Uprising” is short, but has a killer death metal vibe. Some of the riffs are pure early Morbid Angel. Closing the album is the gigantic “World We Knew”, which at 2:11 feels like it will never end (hahahahahah). This track will certainly work marvellously well live.

An album like this can’t have a pretty cover, and “Eruption” gives us a chaotic cover art in keeping with the sound it represents.
