A maldição de ser responsável por um portal de música pesada é que você começa a receber tanto material que se torna humanamente impossível ouvir tudo e resenhar. Mas como tudo tem seu tempo e seu lugar para acontecer, hoje foi o dia que coloquei esse “Bewitchment of the Dark Ages” para tocar e posso afirmar que a sensação de ter sido atingido por um martelo foi muito real.

O GAROTED foi criado em 2008 e já conta com quatro álbuns de estúdio, sendo “Bewitchment of the Dark Ages” o seu mais novo trabalho, lançado meses atrás pela Lavadome Productions. E meus caros amigos, quando uma banda resolve criar metal da morte com a intensidade e selvageria que esses caras colocaram nessas músicas, o resultado não poderia ser diferente, um álbum para você usar como uma arma de destruição em massa.

A primeira impressão é absolutamente positiva quando “Infernal Death´s Majesty” começa a tocar. A primeira coisa que me veio à mente foi o primeiro álbum do Vader, em termos de execução das guitarras. Aquele death metal com riffs cativantes e odiosos se materializa aqui com força total. Impossível ficar parado. Dá vontade de espancar seus inimigos e pisar nos seus cadáveres. Hahahaha O nível de brutalidade dessa faixa de abertura é difícil de descrever. Mas se o álbum inteiro fosse apenas ela, já valeria cada centavo.

“Black Canticle of Horror” testemunha o quanto o guitarrista Drew Frerkking é um demónio. Cada riff aqui é vomitado com ódio e sangue. Mas obviamente sem a presença do Sr. Nolan Weber espancando as peles de sua bateria, nada atingiria esse patamar. Com certeza mandarei a conta do hospício para esses malditos, pois não dá para ouvir isso sem perder um pouco a sanidade. !

A aula de violência continua com a curta e direta “Rites of Sinister Defilement”, uma celebração de riffs rápidos, disparos incessantes de uma metralhadora e vocais pútridos. Aqui a intensidade da composição me fez lembrar dos álbuns do Angel Corpse. “Pestiferous” tem uma sequência tão matadora de riffs que facilmente pode ser uma das melhores músicas do álbum.

O riff de abertura de “Khaos Soul Pandemonium” é a passagem direta para a insanidade. Trabalho matador e preciso. O bom e velho sampler é adicionado no início de “Arcane Shadow Idolatry” e abre os portais da desgraça em forma de música.

“Unfathomable Manifestation” tem momentos mais blast e outros em que o death metal mais tradicional ditam o andamento da música e sempre regidos por uma sinfonia macabra de riffs cortantes e solos caóticos. Infelizmente tudo que é bom acaba e esse momento chega com “Harkening to the Age of Blood & Plague”, que começa mais cadenciada e vai aumentando o grau de agressão. Uma música que fecha de forma perfeita um álbum que não deixa pedra sobre pedra.

“Bewitchment of the Dark Ages” entra direto para a minha lista pessoal de melhores álbuns do ano de 2023 e agora tenho a obrigação moral de correr atrás desse material físico e adicioná-lo à minha coleção. O GAROTED realmente chutou bundas sem pensar duas vezes.

The curse of being responsible for a heavy music portal is that you start receiving so much material that it becomes humanly impossible to listen to it all and review it. But as everything has its time and place, today was the day I put on this “Bewitchment of the Dark Ages” and I can say that the feeling of being hit by a hammer was very real.

GAROTED was founded in 2008 and has already released four studio albums, with “Bewitchment of the Dark Ages” being their latest, released months ago by Lavadome Productions. And my dear friends, when a band decides to create death metal with the intensity and savagery that these guys put into these songs, the result couldn’t be any different, an album that you can use as a weapon of mass destruction.

The first impression is absolutely positive when “Infernal Death’s Majesty” starts playing. The first thing that came to mind was Vader’s first album, in terms of guitar playing. That death metal with catchy, hateful riffs materialises here in full force. It’s impossible to stand still. You feel like beating up your enemies and stomping on their corpses. Hahahaha The level of brutality of this opening track is hard to describe. But if the whole album were just about it, it would be worth every cent.

“Black Canticle of Horror” testifies to what a demon guitarist Drew Frerkking is. Every riff here is spewing with hatred and blood. But obviously without the presence of Mr Nolan Weber beating the skins off his drums, nothing would reach this level. I’ll be sure to send these bastards a mental hospital bill, because you can’t listen to this without losing a little sanity. !

The lesson in violence continues with the short and direct “Rites of Sinister Defilement”, a celebration of fast riffs, incessant machine-gun fire and putrid vocals. Here the intensity of the composition reminded me of Angel Corpse’s albums. “Pestiferous” has such a killer sequence of riffs that it could easily be one of the best songs on the album.

The opening riff of “Khaos Soul Pandemonium” is the gateway to insanity. Killer and precise work. The good old sampler is added at the beginning of “Arcane Shadow Idolatry” and opens the portals of doom in musical form.

“Unfathomable Manifestation” has more blasting moments and others in which more traditional death metal dictates the pace of the music, always governed by a macabre symphony of cutting riffs and chaotic solos. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end and that moment arrives with “Harkening to the Age of Blood & Plague”, which starts off slower and gradually increases in aggression. A song that perfectly closes an album that leaves no stone unturned.

“Bewitchment of the Dark Ages” goes straight onto my personal list of the best albums of 2023 and now I have a moral obligation to track down this physical material and add it to my collection. GAROTED really kicked arse without a second thought.
