Desde a resenha do primeiro álbum de estúdio, há exatamente um ano, a carreira da HULDER vem progredindo a passos largos nos Estados Unidos e mundo afora. Hoje, a banda conta com o apoio da gravadora estadunidense “20 Buck Spin”, e uma rápida visita ao site do selo confirma a relevância da parceria, há muito material da belga em destaque.
A divulgação do álbum de estúdio foi bem-sucedida, e a banda tem feito uma série de apresentações ao vivo pelos Estados Unidos. Celebrando a ótima fase, o primeiro fruto da união com o novo selo será lançado no início de julho, o EP “The Eternal Fanfare”.
A artista sob pseudônimo “Hulder” continua compondo todo o material, trabalhando os excelentes vocais limpos e rasgados e tocando todos os instrumentos, com exceção da bateria. O velho conhecido “Necreon” (FUNEBRARUM) assumiu o kit, além de “CK” (FUNEBRARUM, ASCENDED DEAD, VOIDCEREMONY) baterista em uma das cinco faixas.
O Black Metal medieval executado pela HULDER permanece intacto, se beneficiando de uma produção excepcional. As composições ganharam em potência e energia, soam mais vibrantes, com um elegante toque épico e muito brio.
“Curse from Beyond” é uma intro climática, de teclados tétricos, efeitos sonoros pesados com sinos e chamas crepitando ao fundo, belíssimos vocais femininos, etéreos e envoltos em mistério.
A excelente “Burden of Flesh and Bone” dá as cartas a seguir, mergulhando impetuosamente no mundo das sombras, com muito peso. Os vocais extremos dela soam potentes e bem postados, guitarras afiadas à frente, bateria marcial. Faixa bem direta, com pequena seção atmosférica de teclados épicos, ao final da qual, o talentoso “Phil Tougas” (CHTHE’ILIST, FUNEBRARUM, VOIDCEREMONY) contribui especialmente, com um solo de guitarra bem sacado.
Os momentos mais ríspidos e de percussão acelerada se apresentam em “Sylvan Awakening”, que forma uma parede de som impenetrável em diversos momentos, e conta com algumas dobras bem diversas e interessantes nos vocais.
O som que dá nome ao Play, “The Eternal Fanfare”, é avassalador, abrindo com bateria antiaérea e guitarras cruciantes, atacando com alguma dissonância em dados segmentos e agregando melodias sutis e efetivas em outros. Melhor faixa do EP, fantástica tanto quando cadencia quanto ao longo das constantes seções aceleradas.
O final do Play ainda reserva a grandiosa “A Perilous Journey”, única focada em andamentos mais lentos, de arranjos ricos, acrescentando uma atmosfera bélica e apoteótica, ainda que envolta em profunda melancolia.
Um memorável EP, que confirma a evolução das habilidades da HULDER em composição e execução, gerando, inevitavelmente, forte expectativa por um segundo álbum de estúdio. A divulgação e apresentação do mini álbum já conta com turnê pelos EUA com vinte datas confirmadas, até o momento.

Since reviewing their first studio album, exactly one year ago, HULDER’s career has considerably advanced in the US and around the globe. Today, the band is supported by American “20 Buck Spin”, and a quick visit to the label’s website endorses the relevance of the partnership, there is a ton of stuff by the Belgian to be seen right on the front page.
The promotion of the studio album was successful, and the band has been playing a series of live performances around the United States. Celebrating the momentum, EP “The Eternal Fanfare” is set for release at the beginning of July.
The artist under the pseudonym “Hulder” keeps composing all songs, doing the excellent clean and extreme vocals, and playing all instruments, except for drums. “Necreon” (FUNEBRARUM) took over the drum kit, as well as “CK” (FUNEBRARUM, ASCENDED DEAD, VOIDCEREMONY) who played drums on one of the five tracks.
HULDER’s Medieval Black Metal remains intact, benefiting from exceptional production. Compositions gained in power and energy, sounding more vibrant, with an elegant, epic touch and a lot of panache.
“Curse from Beyond” is a climactic intro, with dark keyboards, heavy sound effects with bells and flames crackling in the background, and beautiful female vocals, ethereal and shrouded in mystery.
The excellent “Burden of Flesh and Bone” takes the lead, heartily plunging into the realm of shadows, with crushing heaviness. Her growls sound powerful and well-placed, among the sharp guitars and martial drumming. Quite straightforward track, with a small atmospheric section of epic keyboards, ended by a virtuous guitar solo by talented “Phil Tougas” (CHTHE’ILIST, FUNEBRARUM, VOIDCEREMONY).
The harshest moments with blasting percussion are presented in “Sylvan Awakening”, which forms an impenetrable wall of sound at different sections, adding some unusual and interesting doubles in vocals.
The title track “The Eternal Fanfare” sounds overwhelming, opening with anti-aircraft drumming and searing guitars, attacking with dissonance at moments and offering subtle and effective melodies in others. Best track on the EP, fantastic when it slows down a bit and also throughout the recurrent, scourging fast-paced segments.
Closure comes in style with the grand “A Perilous Journey”, only piece focused on slower tempos, showing rich arrangements, shrouded in a belligerent and apotheotic atmosphere, albeit bitterly drowned in melancholy.
A memorable EP that confirms HULDER’s evolution, both in songwriting and performance, inevitably generating strong expectations for a second studio album. The EP’s promotion already has a US tour scheduled with twenty confirmed dates.
Highly recommended release for extreme metal fans in general, and more specifically for those into BATHORY (SUE), FALKENBACH (ALE), MORRIGAN (ALE), GRAVELAND (POL), MACABRE OMEN (GRE), SÜHNOPFER (FRA), VÉHÉMENCE (FRA), STORMKEEP (USA).
